The world’s stage for Modern and Contemporary Art, Art Basel is held tri-annually in 3 different locations spanning the globe. Initially founded in 1970 by a few basel gallerists, with the goal of connecting the international art community, Art Basel has grown to be the world’s premier platform for artists and gallerists around the world. It has done so through being the catalyst of many dynamic relationships between art galleries, their artists, private collectors and public institutions. It’s three annual shows bring the art world together in some of the most exciting and well-placed venues: Basel, in the heart of Europe, Miami Beach at the nexus of North and South America; and Hong Kong, the bridge between East and West. Over the past 40 years Art Basel’s worldwide reputation has grown to the highest merit not only in the art world but in the social world as well – think art during the day and parties on Miami’s uber exclusive Star Island at night. Art Basel’s 3 annual shows have become the seasonal place to see and be seen attracting international jet setters and art world scenesters from every corner of the world. With over 250 of the worlds leading galleries participating it is easy to understand how it draws over 200,000 visitors to it’s shows annually, with that number on the rise. Art Basel’s strong belief that galleries play an essential role in the development and promotion of visual arts is the driving force as to why it’s sectors provide opportunities for visitors to see so many types of exhibitions ranging from the Galleries, Nova, Positions, Edition, Kabinett, Public, Film, Survey and Magazines.
